The House this evening cleared to President Bush a bill that would expand the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. The vote was 265-159.
Bush has threatened to veto the bill, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she hopes the president will “dig deeply into his heart and think about the children in America who don’t have healthcare. Because if not, I think that the president is giving new meaning to the words, ’suffer, little children’” from the Bible.
Pelosi’s office has posted speeches from other Democratic lawmakers online, including:

With Senate Democrats vowing to force Republicans into a literal filibuster over the Iraq war rather than a procedural one, House Democrats apparently don’t want to miss out on all of the fun. The leadership in the lower chamber coordinated a series of “one-minute speeches” at the beginning of today’s floor debate.
The Gavel, the blog maintained by the staff of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., published video and pullout quotes of some of the speeches, and Pelosi’s office posted more of them to YouTube. Here are links:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is airing an advertisement that attacks the “shameful” record on veterans’ affairs by Rep. Marilyn Musgrave. It accuses the Colorado Republican of voting to cut veterans’ funding and their health care, and of opposing bonuses for U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The ad is part of DCCC “troops and veterans deserve better” series aimed at GOP incumbents perceived as vulnerable. Other targets include Thelma Drake of Virginia, Phil English of Pennsylvania, Mike Ferguson of New Jersey and Mark Kirk of Illinois.
Another ad attacks the Republican Party as a whole:

That’s what the AFL-CIO has been doing online and offline all week. One of the labor group’s tactics has been posting video excerpts from speeches by lawmakers who support legislation to make it easier to form unions. Here are the latest Senate floor excerpts:
Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio
Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J.
Patty Murray, D-Wash.
James Webb, D-Va.
Plus more from Democratic Sens. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania; Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer, both of New York; Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota; and Bob Menendez of New Jersey.
Earlier this month, the AFL-CIO also aired an advertisement on the issue and posted the ad to YouTube.
