Friday Fun: ‘The Clinton Cackle’

October 5, 2007, 6:53am

For some bizarre reason, journalists at The New York Times and elsewhere are starting to pay attention to the way Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton laughs. Patrick Healy dubbed it “the Clinton cackle,” and both Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich also mentioned Clinton’s laugh in recent columns.

Comedian Jon Stewart may be the brains behind the current obsession with Clinton’s laugh. He did an entire skit on the subject. Numerous other video clips of the laugh, some of them mean-spirited, are surfacing online, too. Here’s one:

Friday Fun: The Truth About Politicians

September 28, 2007, 8:15pm

As a former reporter and editor at the sober-minded, just-the-facts-ma’am Congressional Quarterly, I almost fell out of my chair after seeing the new online video to promote PolitiFact, a joint product of CQ and the St. Petersburg Times, which have the same parent company in Florida.

It’s not your typical YouTube political video, and it’s definitely not your typical CQ promotional campaign. We’re talking pop music; musicians cleverly masked as the most famous liars of modern American politics (Richard “I am not a crook” Nixon, George “No new taxes” Bush, and Bill “I did not have sexual relations” Clinton); and references to the YouTube political celebrities of 2008, “Billiam The Snowman” and “Obama Girl“; and a catchy albeit cheesy tune titled “Gimme The Truth.”

Plus this from James Kotecki on Playbook TV: “The Republicans couldn’t care less about black people, and the Democrats want your second-graders to be gay and married.”

Friday Fun: Ted Kennedy’s World

September 7, 2007, 7:31am

What could be more fun on a Friday than watching Sen. Ted Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat, singing “We Are The World,” courtesy of “Reliable Sources” at The Washington Post.

I loved the “Underdog” superhero cartoon when I was a kid. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, is playing that role in the 2008 presidential campaign (as are a whole bunch of other candidates), so it was only a matter of time before some creative mind put two and two together and came up with, uh, six.

Ron Paul as underdog — that’s definitely not good math. But it does make for some Friday video fun.
