AdWatch: Wayne Gilchrest’s Liberal Past

Rep. Wayne Gilchrest is a tax hiker from way back, a lover of pork-barrel projects, a public official determined to line his own pockets with pay raises, and a liberal who votes like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
Well, at least that is Gilchrest’s biography according to The Club For Growth, which is no fan of the Maryland Republican and wants to see him defeated in the GOP primary Feb. 12. It’s a message that Andy Harris, the conservative rival to Gilchrest, is sending himself. Here are ads by the club and Harris

These ads are trash and totally misleading, but that is exactly what you get from Club for Growth. Gilchrest’s record on taxes is strongly in the Repulibcan camp, and the whole thing about voting for a pay raise is bunk. If Members vote yes for a particular spending bill that does not block the annual cost-of-living increase in pay (put in alw in 1989), then they are accused of voting for a pay raise — even when the bill does not include one word about congressional pay. Why do Marylanders want an out-of-state group that represents big business and corporate America to pay for and pick our Represenative in Congress??!!!!!
