Move On McCain, You ‘Reckless President’
April 20, 2007, 12:42pm
It didn’t take long for MoveOn to seize on the “bomb Iran” joke of John McCain as an opportunity to bash both him and President Bush.
The liberal activist group already has put together a 30-second video retort to the Arizona Republican and will air it as a television advertisement against McCain in Iowa and New Hampshire through next week. The ad, which replays McCain’s joke and cites it as further evidence that he would be a “reckless president” is available on YouTube.
It’s not the first time MoveOn has targeted McCain in an ad, either. Here’s another video from January that criticized “the McCain plan to escalate” the U.S. troop presence in Iraq.
Whether McCain’s calls for a troop escalation will significantly hurt his presidential ambitions in 2008 remains an unknown, but the odds of the joke about Iran doing so seem pretty slim.
This video will be a mini-”macaca” moment at best for McCain because there are plenty of people in the nation, like John Hawkins of Right Wing News, who will appreciate McCain’s sense of humor and have no problem with him joking about bombing a country that has been America’s enemy for decades.
Instapundit Glenn Reynolds just sees McCain’s joke as a sign that he has “started to enjoy himself on the trail again.”

McCain is all dressed up and standing at the station where the train pulled out on him in 2000. Will somebody please tell this guy to pack it in and go home?
