President Bush told the nation in his weekly radio address that he is “troubled” by reports of “substandard conditions” at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Bush said his administration is taking steps to correct problems there and also is checking to make sure similar problems do not exist at other military medical facilities.

“Walter Reed has a long tradition of outstanding medical service,” he said, “and my administration will ensure that the soldiers recovering there are treated with the dignity and respect they have earned.”
