The Early Bird In The Presidential Race

January 21, 2007, 3:45pm

Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack was so quick to launch his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination — he announced the day after Democrats won the Nov. 7 mid-term election — that I didn’t have a chance to get AirCongress online before he took that step.

But with so many other candidates joining the race via video announcements the past few days, now seems like a good time to get Vilsack’s introductory video into the mix here.

All of the Democrats officially in the race so far have sounded similar themes — listening to and learning from voters, engaging them in conversation or inviting them to act now to change the country for the better — but Vilsack jumped on that bandwagon first.

“This isn’t just about me talking to you; it’s as important as me listening to you,” he said. “And that’s what I’m anxious to do. I’m anxious to learn about your ideas” on achieving energy security, “solving this healthcare crisis,” creating an innovative economy with good-paying jobs and improving “America’s place in the world.”

He added that “there are more solutions on Main Street America than in K Street,” where reside in Washington.
