‘Hope And Ideas’ From Sam Brownback
January 20, 2007, 6:42pm
Sen. Sam Brownback added his name to the rapidly growing list of potential presidential candidates today, and like two Democrats who joined the race this week, the Kansas Republican announced his exploratory committee in an online video.
The Democrats — Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois — played up the idea of a conversation with American voters. Brownback’s theme was one of “hope and ideas” at a time when hopelessness is threatening the American dream for some people.
“Each generation of Americans is called upon to carry the torch of virtue during its brief season,” he said. “If one generation lets the torch fall, its light is extinguished for all future generations. That’s a big responsibility, but we can achieve it if we pick up the torch with courage, generosity, and realism.”
The full text of Brownback’s announcement is available on the home page of his exploratory committee.
Jeff Jarvis of BuzzMachine invited viewers to compare and contrast the online video messages of Brownback and Clinton, who made their announcements the same day.
