Mitt Romney On Abortion, Gay Rights

I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my Mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate.

I feel that all people should be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Mitt Romney uttered those words in 1994 while running as the Republican Senate challenger to Democrat Edward Kennedy in Massachusetts. Now they have come back to haunt Romney as he considers a run for president in 2008. Someone posted to the Internet a video of those Romney excerpts from his debate with Kennedy:

After the video appeared on YouTube and spread online, Romney’s online campaign team moved quickly to quell any damage it might do to his reputations with conservative Republicans even before the 2008 primary campaign begins. Romney granted an interview with “The Glenn and Helen Show,” the podcast co-hosted by Instapundit Glenn Reynolds:

The Romney crew even went one step further, capturing the podcast interview on video and posting it to YouTube:

That move won Romney and his staff praise from Republican commentators, new media experts and more.
